Important Information Regarding Participation in Salem College Athletics
Thank you for your interest in Salem College Athletics. As a historic all-women’s college, we are deeply committed to fostering a welcoming and empowering environment for women in academics, leadership, and athletics.
In alignment with the State of North Carolina policy, NCAA eligibility regulations, and Salem College’s mission as a women’s institution, participation in NCAA varsity athletics at Salem College is currently limited to individuals who are legally recognized as female and meet all NCAA eligibility standards.
At this time, students who are legally recognized as male — including transgender women (individuals assigned male at birth) — are not eligible to compete in intercollegiate athletics at Salem College, as doing so would conflict with both state guidelines and the college’s single-gender mission.
We recognize that this is a deeply personal and evolving topic, and we remain committed to treating all individuals with respect and dignity while also upholding our institutional policies and compliance obligations.
